Perspectives on Computer Assisted Surgery (cas) in Minimally Invasive Surgery and the Role of the Cas System Nurse

چکیده
Minimally invasive surgery has become a widely used surgical technique that improves patients’ safety and optimizes health resources. Specifically, laparoscopic surgery uses small incisions through the abdomen to operate, for example a liver, with minimal postoperative complications and faster recoveries. However, the cognitive load and surgical skills required by surgeons increase when compared to open surgery. For these reasons, specific training models and new technologies are needed to assist surgeons. One of this kind of systems are Computer Assisted Surgery systems that enable the display of computer generated imagery of preand intra-operative data to assist surgeons during its surgical procedures, but in many hospitals either they are not used at a basic level due to socio-economic challenges or components still face considerable technical challenges that must be solved. In this paper we list some of the difficulties that CAS components face during a laparoscopic surgery and highlight the benefits that a new job profile, the computer assisted surgery system nurse could bring in several modelling and tracking scenarios.

Optical techniques for 3D surface reconstruction in computer-assisted laparoscopic surgery
One of the main challenges for computer-assisted surgery (CAS) is to determine the intra-operative morphology and motion of soft-tissues. This information is prerequisite to the registration of multi-modal patient-specific data for enhancing the surgeon's navigation capabilities by observing beyond exposed tissue surfaces and for providing intelligent control of robotic-assisted instruments. In...
متن کاملMinimally invasive and computer-navigated total hip arthroplasty: a qualitative and systematic review of the literature
BACKGROUND Both minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and computer-assisted surgery (CAS) for total hip arthroplasty (THA) have gained popularity in recent years. We conducted a qualitative and systematic review to assess the effectiveness of MIS, CAS and computer-assisted MIS for THA. METHODS An extensive computerised literature search of PubMed, Medline, Embase and OVIDSP was conducted. Both ran...
متن کاملDeviation between navigated and final 3-dimensional implant position in mini-invasive unicompartmental knee arthroplasty
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is an established method of treating isolated gonartrosis. Modern techniques such as computer-assisted surgery (CAS) and minimally invasive surgery (MIS) are attractive complementary methods to UKA. However, the positioning of the components remains a concern. Thus, we performed a prospective study to assess whether there was devia...

BACKGROUND The intra-operative three-dimensional (3D) structure of tissue organs and laparoscope motion are the basis for many tasks in computer-assisted surgery (CAS), such as safe surgical navigation and registration of pre-operative and intra-operative data for soft tissues. METHODS This article provides a literature review on laparoscopic video-based intra-operative techniques of 3D surfa...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Results of Pulmonary Resection by Minimally Invasive Thoracoscopy for the Surgical Treatment of Lung Cancer
Introduction: Lung cancer is the disease of modern era, and the rate of lung cancer mortality is three times as high as that for prostate cancer and twice as high as the rate for breast cancer. We aimed to analyze the results of pulmonary resection in patients with NSCLC by minimally invasive thoracoscopy. Materials and Methods: We studied 10 patients with NSCLC scheduled for surgical resectio...
